At 5am this morning, after Fajr prayer, I sat in the living room of my Silicon Valley home, listening to my favorite Mandingo song, Bako Dagnon’s “Sidiba,” and reflecting on the past 25 years of my life in Sierra Leone.
Eleven years of brutal civil war. Ebola. COVID. Mudslides. Floods. Through all of it, I am still standing. All I can say is Alhamdulillah. Allah Tanto.🙏🏻
I don’t know when. I don’t know how. I don’t know with which political party. But I know this: one day, inshallah, I will become President of Sierra Leone and stand among Africa’s great leaders of the 21st century.
I have seen enough. I have done enough to know I am ready to do more. I started serving and making an impact at a very young age, and for over 20 years I have worked in the corporate world, international organizations, media, the creative industry, and education, at home and abroad. I have done my homework, and I still learn every day through mentorship, education, and common sense.
Now it is time for the whole of Sierra Leone to see the best of me. After 65 years of independence, our people deserve better than dark nights, dry taps, deplorable hospitals, rising prices, and a generation of young people without jobs, even though we have the world’s largest deposits of minerals such as diamonds, gold, and bauxite.
Sierra Leone, our time will come. I am getting ready. I’m optimistic: with God, prayer, dedication, consistency, and hard work, nothing has been impossible for me in this life. 🇸🇱❤️
